Yankee With No Brim refers to a viral video in which a person comments on a New York Yankees baseball cap with its brim cut off, saying "Woah, Yankee with no brim!" In early April 2020 the clip, combined with Barnacle Boy's Sulfur Vision, spawned a meme on iFunny in which the words of the phrase were recombined in humorous ways.

Origin

The exact origin of the video is unknown. On February 8th, 2020, Twitter[1] user @3104_Mic reposted a video of a person wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap with its brim cut off (shown below). In the clip, person filming the video excitedly comments on the hat, saying, "Woah, Yankee with no brim!" The upload received over 286,000 views, 3,600 retweets and 9,800 likes in two months.

In the following days, the video received significant spread on Instagram, Twitter[2] and YouTube with multiple reuploads.[3] On February 8th, 2020, Twitter[4] user @samtroof posted the earliest known edit of the original video, uploading a remixed version of the clip,

The video did not see significant use in memes until on March 24th, 2020, Instagram[5] user thegoldenvault posted a Barnacle Boy's Sulfur Vision meme based on the clip (reupload shown below). On the following day, iFunny[6] user Welsh_Ramsey reposted the video, with the meme gaining over 8,000 smiles on the app in two weeks. On April 2nd iFunny[7] user RepubYourFavoriteSongs reposted the meme, gaining over 3,600 smiles in five days.

On April 3rd, 2020, iFunny[11] user Mung posted a Barnacle Boy's Sulfur Vision edit in which the words in the phrase were swapped. The edit received over 7,400 smiles in four days (shown below), with the video reposted on Twitter[8] and Instagram in the following days.

In the following days, Barnacle Boy's Sulfur Vision memes in which the words in the catchphrase were recombined in humorous ways gained significant popularity on iFunny. For example, an April 5th post by iFunny[9] user Feedback received over 670 smiles in one day (shown below, left). A meme posted by iFunny[10] user Strangled_Goose on the same day received over 1,100 smiles (shown below, right).
