When Teacher Says to Get Out of Class, also known as Girls Reaction vs. Boys Reaction, refers to a series of memes poking fun at the perceived differences in the behavior of male and female students. Starting in late 2018, the trope gained significant popularity in ironic shitposts on Reddit and Instagram.

Origin

Before August 5th, 2017, an unknown Facebook user made the first known post comparing boys' and girls' reactions to the teacher telling them to leave the class (shown below, left).^[1] In the following months, more variations of the same joke were posted on Facebook, including posts by Indian Facebook pages Be Like Bro and Jokes King (shown below, center and right).^[2]^[3] The latter post used the image of crying American TV personality Kim Kardashian originating from American reality television series Kourtney & Kim Take New York.^[4]

Spread

On July 24th, 2018, Redditor jfelaheebaccus reposted a version of the meme originally created by Facebook group Why Serious Bro to /r/ComedyCemetary subreddit, with the post gaining over 210 upvotes in six months.^[5]

On October 23rd, 2018, Redditor Bosoxben posted reposted the version of the meme created by Jokes King Facebook group to /r/okbuddyretard subreddit, with the post gaining over 320 upvotes and later reposted to /r/bruhmoment^[6] and /r/funny.^[7] On the same day, Reddit user Torma25 posted the first known ironic edit of the meme to the subreddit, with the post receiving over 1,900 upvotes in six months (shown below).^[8]

In the following months, more ironic examples of the meme were posted to /r/okbuddyretard^[9] and /r/bruhmoment,^[10] with the format also spreading to Instagram.

On Instagram, the format maintained a significant presence in ironic shitposts through late 2018 and 2019, with notable posts made by users kaiser_noble,^[11] hoodpooper69^[12] and big_headass_nigga.^[13]

Boys Locker Room

Boys Locker Room refers to a series of memes metaphorically presenting perceived differences between male and female student locker rooms in a comedic, often absurd manner. The format gained significant spread on Reddit in May 2019.
