Use The Voice refers to a screenshot from the 2021 Dune film in which Lady Jessica of Atreides asks Paul to "use the voice," which is a power the Bene Gesserit have to influence others to do what they want. In November 2021, the screenshot was as an exploitable image macro used in parodies that saw it paired with people and fictional characters who have a notable voice.

Origin

Early in the 2021 remake of Dune, Lady Jessica instructs Paul to "use the voice," a power of the Bene Gesserit to influence others, in order to get her a glass of water (screenshot shown below).^[1]

On November 1st, 2021, Redditor farquaadschin posted a Skyrim-themed meme to /r/SkyrimMemes^[2] using the still, gaining over 650 points (shown below) and serving as the first known use of the scene as a meme format.

Spread

The template began seeing most use on Twitter after November 10th, 2021, when user @BonerWizard^[3] posted the screenshot next to Elizabeth Holmes, gaining over 2,400 retweets and 30,000 likes (shown below, left). This inspired the meme to begin trending on Twitter over the following two days. For example, later on November 10th, user @Fangoria^[4] posted the meme alongside a still from the Halloween film, gaining over 250 retweets and 1,700 likes (shown below, right).
