About

The Flash Enters Speed Force refers to a copypasta inspired by a moment during the 2022 Academy Awards when a scene from Zack Snyder's Justice League in which The Flash enters "Speed Force" won the fan-voted poll for "Most Cheer-worthy Moment In Cinema History." The announcement was confusing to many movie-viewers who had little interest in Justice League, leading to ironic jokes about the award and the phrase "The Flash enters Speed Force" turning into a copypasta.

Origin

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, The Flash enters "Speed Force," a layer of reality that can manipulate time, in order to give The Justice League the final victory in the climactic battle (shown below).

As part of an effort to engage more viewers, the 2022 Oscars introduced fan-voted awards that would be announced on the broadcast, though the winners would not receive actual statues. One of these awards was "The Most Cheer-Worthy Moment In Movies," offering fans the opportunity to vote on which cinematic moment caused them to cheer.[1] The top five nominees were The Flash entering Speed Force from Justice League, the three Spider-Men teaming up in Spider-man: No Way Home, The Avengers assembling in Avengers: Endgame, Jennifer Hudson singing "And I Am Telling You" in Dreamgirls and Neo dodging bullets in The Matrix. The Flash entering Speed Force won the award, leading to a surreal moment where the scene played mid-broadcast.

Spread

After the moment aired, it was quickly mocked online by people who largely viewed the win as undeserved and the result of a coordinated fan campaign. Most of these were expressed via people ironically tweeting how "excited" they were when The Flash entered Speed Force. For example, on March 27th, 2022, Twitter user @joshgondelman[2] tweeted, "I always stand up and cheer when The Flash enters The Speed Force. It is my number one standing up and cheering moment. Thank you for representing people like me, The Oscars," gaining over 370 retweets and 4,600 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, left). That same day, user @McHenryJD[3] tweeted, "we ALL remember the flash enters speed force. I talk about the flash enters speed force all the time," gaining over 420 retweets and 4,500 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

Others used the moment to joke about the Will Smith slap of Chris Rock. For example, on March 27th @Ben_Rosen[4] joked, "if the flash re-enters the speed force he can go back and save chris rock," gaining over 80 retweets and 440 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, left). Twitter user @BonksMullet[5] joked the following day that The Flash entering Speed Force would be the most memorable Oscars moment if the fans voted on the occasion, gaining over 70 retweets and 720 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
