Target Jennifer refers to a series of viral videos featuring a woman named Jennifer who attempted to block looters in front of a Target in Minneapolis, Minnesota while in a power wheelchair during protests over the death of George Floyd in May 2020. The videos, first released on Twitter, shows Jennifer attempting to stab looters, being sprayed with a fire extinguisher, running her wheelchair into a wall, crying to a person filming saying she was peacefully protesting and getting out of her wheelchair to walk.

Origin

On May 27th, 2020, Twitter user @___0HOUR1 posted a video of a woman blocking a Target entrance from looters with her wheelchair and added the caption, "Elderly Resident tried to stop the rioters from looting Target in Minnesota" (shown below). The video gained over 3.1 million views, 78,500 likes and 40,800 retweets in a day.

Spread

On May 28th, 2020, Twitter user @briaslnterIude uploaded a second video of Jennifer running her wheelchair into a wall and received over 770 likes and 700 retweets that day (shown below).

That same day, Twitter user @PoeticKaee posted a video of Jennifer in the street after the looting incident crying to the person filming and attempting to explain the situation (shown below). The post captioned, "She just needs to go home." gained over 4,900 likes and 4,200 retweets in a day.

Twitter user @SoraAubrey posted a video that same day of a woman in the distance attempting to break open an ATM and walking. The video, captioned, "Oh her legs definitely work !!," accumulated over 9,000 likes and 5,200 retweets in a day (shown below).

On May 28th, "She's 30," "Jennifer," "She's Got a Knife" and "Gypsy Rose" began trending. Twitter user @haIaIheaux[1] responded to the videos by tweeting, "she’s 30 and she can walk? but she’s being portrayed by the media as an elderly disabled woman? while the protestors and looters are being portrayed like animals?" (shown below, left). The video garnered over 4,100 likes and 760 retweets in a day. That day, Twitter user @anxieuxkris[2] posted a deep-fried image of Jennifer with the caption, "me because y’all got “Gypsy Rose” trending" (shown below, right). The tweet received over 50 likes in an hour. Heavy[3] published an article on the viral videos.
