The Patrick Star Show is an upcoming animated television series. The show is a spinoff of SpongeBob SquarePants and reportedly features the character Patrick Star as a late-night talkshow host, revolving on the trials and tribulations of late-night television.

History

In February 2019, Nickelodeon announced several events in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants.^[1]

On August 10th, 2020, Deadline reported^[2] that Nickelodeon was "finalizing deals for The Patrick Star Show. The show will run for 13 episodes in its first season. Bill Fagerbakke will voice Patrick on the series. They write:

According to sources, The Patrick Star Show is in the vein of The Larry Sanders Show and Comedy Bang! Bang!, with Patrick (Fagerbakke) hosting his own late-night talk show. I hear the series would revolve around Patrick and his family. Fagerbakke is being joined by a largely new cast voicing new characters, with SpongeBob cast members expected to make occasional appearances, reprising their roles.

The announcement inspired several conversations on Reddit, including on the subreddits /r/television,^[3] /r/Earwolf,^[4] /r/RevelTaxi,^[5] /r/spongebob^[6] and more.

On Twitter, the announcement received a negative response. Twitter^[7] user @RiseFallNick tweeted, "Nickelodeon has officially announced Patrick Star is getting his own Spinoff called "The Patrick Star Show", nothing else is known about it. This couldn't be worse timing given how they treated Rise of TMNT and how pissed fans are at them currently for mistreating original IPs." The tweet received more than 1,900 likes and 370 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, left). Twitter^[8] user @JennALT_01angel wrote, "So apparently Nickelodeon has officially announced Patrick Star is getting a spinoff called The Patrick Star Show, which essentially means this trip of a Wikia page predicted the future. I ain’t gonna watch the spinoff, but I’m sure it could never deliver gold like this" (shown below, center). Twitter^[9] user @Animated_Antic tweeted, "Well, Nick is making a new SpongeBob spinoff called The Patrick Star Show. I'll just say this about it. They couldn't have announced this show at a worse time if you know what's been going on with Nick and their properties."
