On March 11th, 2018, recording artist Ariana Grande posted a message on Instagram Stories[1] asking fans to show their faces in selfies. She wrote: "I love meeting y'all out and about, it makes me so so happy! But it makes me so sad when y'all don't put your faces in the photos or put emojis over your faces or ask to not be in them! You show me so much unconditional love all the time no matter what tf i look like. You deserve to show yourselves that same kindness. Please lear to give that to yourselves! You will get there and you deserve it and i love you the vaery same way! sweet dreams."

That day, fans of the singer began posting selfies of themselves with the hashtag "#SelfiesForAriana" on Twitter and Instagram. Twitter[2] user @deluxeariana posted two selfies with the caption "hi I love miss ariana grande butera #SelfiesForAriana." The post (shown below, left) received more than 130 retweets and 2,000 likes in 24 hours.

Twitter[3] user @dangeroustasha posted two selfies as well. The post (shown below, center) received more than 160 retweets and 2,900 likes in 24 hours. Throughout the day, more fans posted selfies under the hashtag.
