Rolf Sings refers to a series of YouTube remix videos based on a scene from the Cartoon Network series Ed, Edd n Eddy, where the character Rolf gets hit by a boomerang and cannot stop singing opera whenever he opens his mouth. Online, people have replaced the opera song that Rolf sings with different songs for comedic effect. Additionally, some versions of the videos show Rolf's singing as destroying his neighborhood.

Origin

On February 14th, 2004, Cartoon Network aired the episode of Ed, Edd n Eddy entitled "Hand Me Down Ed."[1] in the episode a mysterious boomerang flies around the cul-de-sac and alters the behavior of those it comes in contact with. When the boomerang lands in his pants, Rolf cannot stop singing opera whenever he opened his mouth.

On October 18th, 2006, YouTuber[2] zacharyrandall remixed the video so that it appears as though Rolf's singing causes the destruction of the neighborhood. The post (shown below, left) received more than 287,000 views in 11 years.

The following year, on November 18th, 2007, YouTuber[3] Polarjerbear posted a remix of the video, which replaced Rolf's singing with the "Weird" Al Yankovic song "Eat It." The post (shown below, right) received more than 8,000 views in 10 years. This becomes the first instance of the most popular form of the meme.

On July 3rd, 2008, YouTuber[4] Chinscream posted a version of Rolf singing the music from the Guitar Hero video game. The post (shown below) received more than 56,000 views.
