Rand Paul Beard refers to jokes about Kentucky Senator Rand Paul's newly-grown beard, ostensibly grown in quarantine during the Coronavirus. Jokes often centered on applying various incorrect identities to Paul's new look, a la the What Does It Look Like I Do For A Living? meme.

Origin

On April 13th, 2020, Rand Paul appeared on the Fox News program Fox and Friends,[1] sporting a beard (shown below). Paul was on the program to discuss his volunteer work at hospitals after recovering from COVID-19.


Spread

Shortly after Paul's interview aired, Twitter users began joking about his "quarantine beard." One of the first people to post about the beard was user @atrupar,[2] who gained over 150 retweets and 1,200 likes (shown below). User @pixie_casey[3] joked he looked like a “professor you were warned to stay away from” (shown below, right).


Many jokes were responses to a tweet by @ProfSamKimin,[4] who posed a Wrong Answers Only question about Rand Paul's new look and gained over 8,300 replies (shown below, left). User @darth[5] joked he looked like Orson Welles in his infamous wine commercial (shown below, right). Jokes were covered by Raw Story[6] and CityBeat.[1]
