Piece Control Kyle, also known as Kyle on 60hrz, is a fictional character that represents the stereotypical professional Fortnite player. The character is associated with multiple Fortnite players, including YouTubers mi1k and DL Zachology. Zachology is also known for starting the Dogwater meme.

Origin

On November 1st, 2020, @m1lk_w uploaded a skit to TikTok ^[1] with the on-screen caption, "Pov: The fortnite kid gets in trouble" in which he acts out a conversation between a "Fortnite kid" who goes by "Kyle on 60hrz" and a principal trying to punish the Fortnite kid (shown below). In the role of the Fortnite kid, m1lk talks in short, fast sentences and uses terms only an experienced Fortnite player would know to the detriment of the principal. The video gained over 945,000 views in in 2 months (shown below, left). In the description of the video, @m1lk_w credits @Yoderlol,^[2] who also does Fortnite pro parodies on TikTok, for inspiring the video.

@m1lk_w continued to upload Fortnite pro parodies to TikTok over the next few days, with multiple videos hitting over 1 million views. On November 11th, m1lk_w uploaded a video to TikTok^[3] titled, "POV: fortnite pro gets sent to the principal's office" in which he uses the name "Piece Control Kyle" for his character for the first time, garnering over 3.6 million views in 2 months (shown below). "

"Piece control" is a Fortnite term. According to Sportskeeda^[4] it means "controlling the pieces (buildables) in proximity to create openings for eliminations."

On November 25th, 2020, @m1lk_w uploaded another parody skit to TikTok^[5] in which Piece Control Kyle introduces himself to a teacher (shown below, left) garnering over 5.5 million views in under 2 months. The video was reuploaded to YouTube^[6] by QT Quake on December 4th, where it gained over 32,000 views in under a month. On December 8th, @zachology uploaded a video to TikTok^[7] depicting someone piece controlling in Fortnite (shown below). Right before a kill is made, the video pauses and a clip from @m1lk_w's TikTok is played.

On December 16th, @zachology uploaded another Fortnite clip to TikTok^[8] where the action pauses before a kill, only this time he does an imitation of Piece Control Kyle, garnering over 350,000 views in just under a month (shown below, left). On December 18th he uploaded a similar video^[9] imitating Piece Control Kyle, garnering over 2.3 million views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right). @Zachology continued to upload videos playing the Piece Control Kyle character under the hashtag #piececontrolkyle, even referring to him by said name in multiple videos.

On December 19th, LBB Prod uploaded a Piece Control Kyle compilation to YouTube,^[10] garnering over 498,000 views in under a month (shown below). On the same day, bhmotionn uploaded a video to TikTok^[11] where they use the same freeze-frame format along with a clip of Zachology as Piece Control Kyle, garnering over 4.9 million views in a comparable span of time.

As the name "Piece Control Kyle" spread so did @Mi1k_w's popularity. He began playing the Piece Control Kyle character in YouTube^[12]^[13] uploads, including his regular appearances on the channel "Fortnite Kid" (shown below, left) and an appearance on the Team New Age channel (shown below, right).
