Oh Man, It's Our Idiot refers to an exploitable series of screenshots from the 2005 Super Sentai show Mahou Sentai Magiranger depicting five characters watching a television report of someone climbing up a pole, realizing it's their family member. The scene became the subject of photoshops and redraw edits around 2019, with artists reimagining the scene with different characters.

Origin

On February 13th, 2005, the first episode of the Super Sentai series Mahou Sentai Magiranger, similar to shows like Power Rangers, aired on Japanese television. During the first episode, the gang of protagonists sees one of their family, climbing a tall pole on the news, resulting in the shocked exclamation, "that's our idiot!" (shown below).

One of the earliest instances of the scene being turned into a series of separate, captioned screenshots was uploaded to Tumblr^[1] on September 2nd, 2017 by biomic. On May 12th, 2018, 9gag^[2] user Funny posted a version of the meme with each image attached, garnering over 13,000 points in three years (shown below).

On August 26th, 2018, Twitter^[3] user @percivore posted an original piece of art referencing the scene but using My Hero Academia characters, garnering over 3,700 likes and 1,600 retweets and representing one of the earliest available versions of the scene as an original meme (shown below).

The scene inspired a number of other edits over the course of the next three years, many reimagining the scene with different characters.

On July 29th, 2019, Twitter^[5] user @ViktorMaru posted a Naruto themed version of the meme, garnering over 1,800 likes and 870 retweets in roughly two years (shown below, left). On September 22nd, 2019, Redditor u/Calmdown_br0 posted a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure themed version of the scene to /r/wholesomejojo^[4] garnering over 3,600 upvotes in two years (shown below, right).

On September 23rd, Twitter^[6] user @kurocavi posted a version of the meme featuring the characters as BTS members, garnering over 18,000 likes and 8,800 retweets in two years (shown below).

On May 23rd, 2020, Tumblr^[7] user masterhandss posted a My Next Life As A Villainess themed version of the meme, garnering over 5,000 notes in a year (shown below).

On February 18th, 2021, Twitter^[8] user @lullindo posted a new version of the meme, garnering over 209,000 likes and 42,000 retweets in three months (shown below).
