About

Many Such Cases is a phrase used by Donald J. Trump in a 2014 tweet about vaccines and autism. In the late 2010s, the line was then popularized as a meme catchphrase, often used to emphasize a point being made in a post and as a title for various posts.

Origin

On March 28th, 2014, American businessman and future president of the United States Donald Trump posted an anti-vaccination tweet[1] claiming vaccines are able to cause autism in children, adding, "Many such cases!" The tweet (shown below) received over 19,200 retweets and 29,000 likes in nine years.

Similar to another Trumpism, "Sad!", the expression first gained popularity among Donald Trump supporters in the 2016 US Presidential Election on 4chan and in the now-banned /r/The_Donald subreddit. For example, on March 22nd, 2016, an anonymous 4chan[2] user made a post about the Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton in /pol/ which used both catchphrases (shown below, left). On April 19th, 2016, another user posted[3] the earliest found edit of the full tweet in a /pol/ thread (shown below, right).

Spread

In the late 2010s, the catchphrase appeared in a multitude of 4chan[4][5] posts, often used to emphasize the point being made, with the tweet being used as a phrasal template (examples shown below).

Starting in 2020, the phrase often appeared in tweets[6][7] by British far-right political commentator Paul Joseph Watson.

In 2021, the phrase saw popularization on Twitter as users included it in their posts for emphasis and comedy purposes. For example, on December 8th, 2021, Twitter user @ItsTheMainMan made a tweet that received over 350 retweets and 6,300 likes in two years (shown below, left). On March 25th, 2022, Twitter user @A_Gata_Mistica posted a Dean Norris Reaction meme accompanied by the catchphrase (shown below, right). The post received over 3,200 retweets and 30,300 likes in one year.
