Kanye West's Big Balenciaga Boots is an exploitable photograph of rapper Kanye West wearing a pair of unreleased Balenciaga "steroid boots" to the company's Resort 2023 fashion show in May 2022. The appearance and large size of the boots inspired memes comparing them to cartoon boots and photoshops making the boots larger.

Origin

On May 22nd, 2022, Kanye West was photographed in New York City outside of the New York Stock Exchange, where Balenciaga hosted its "Resort 2023" fashion show. That day, several photographs of West wearing unreleased "steroid boots" by Balenciaga were posted to Getty Images.^[1] That day, Vogue^[2] published an article about West's outfit for the show, highlighting the boots, using one of the images in the piece (shown below).

On May 22nd, 2022, Twitter^[3] user @dondatimes posted the photograph, captioned, "Kanye just went to another level of boots," gaining over 118,000 likes and 7,500 retweets in five days. Several memes about the boots were made in the comments. On May 23rd, Twitter^[4] user @Zakpaonessa posted a photoshop of the image enlarging West's boots, gaining over 900 likes in four days (shown below, left). Twitter^[5] user @lungdarts666 responded to the comment with a photoshop enlarging the boots further, gaining over 600 likes (shown below, center). @Zakpaoness^[6]a commented again with another photoshop increasing the boots' size (shown below, right).

On May 23rd, one of the boot photoshops was shared by Twitter^[7] user @yourgirl_ajex, gaining over 52,000 likes in four days. On the 24th, Twittter^[8] user @luhblix shared one of the images, gaining over 435,000 likes and 28,000 retweets in three days. On May 27th, Instagram^[9] page hoodclips shared several memes about the boots, gaining over 52,000 likes in under a day (example shown below). On the same day, the image was posted to /r/boottoobig,^[10] captioned, "Roses are red, third try's the treat," gaining over 2,100 upvotes in under a day.
