Hey Little Man Hows It Goin? refers to the webcomic "A True Conversationalist" by comic artist Mysillycomics in which a person attempts asks a baby how it is going, and responds to its gibberish by saying "yea." In 2020, the comic and its last panel received viral spread online as an exploitable and a reaction image. The memes often poking fun at how things are going poorly for a certain object which can't express its problems in human speech.

Origin

On July 23rd, 2018, comic artist Mysillycomics posted a four-panel comic in which a person attempts to converse with a baby to Twitter[1] and Tumblr.[2] In the comic, the person asks the baby how it is going, with the baby responding with gibberish. The person proceeds to stare and then responds with "yea." The comic received over 50,400 likes and reblogs on Tumblr and over 2,400 retweets and 5,800 likes on Reddit in two years (shown below).

Spread

The comic did not see use as a meme format until on January 27th, 2019, Redditor[3] kyromanji used the comic to poste a meme about BMW cars to /r/BMW, with the post gaining over 1,700 upvotes in six months. On the same day, Facebook[4] user Nigel reposted the image, with the post gaining over 400 reactions and 2,200 shares in two years.

On the same day, Facebook[5] page Dullahan Patch Co posted the earliest found derivative meme within the format, with the post gaining over 180 reactions and 520 shares in two years (shown below, left). A meme posted by Instagram[6] user slothdive on February 1st, 2019, received over 9,100 likes in two years (shown below, right).

The format did not see notable spread until on March 21st, 2020, iFunny[7] user TheBostonian reposted the original meme, with the post gaining over 64,000 smiles in seven months. On July 26th, 2020, Twitter[8] user @ChumsKnifeblade reposted the meme, gaining over 12,00 retweets and 74,900 likes in three months.

Following @ChumsKnifeblade's repost, the comic gained significant popularity as a meme format, with posts often poking fun at how things are going poorly for a certain object that can't express its problems in human speech.
