Grissinbon refers to an Italian meme trend on TikTok that uses a song from a Grissin Bon commercial that repeats, "Grissinbon, Grissinbon, Grissinbon." Meme creators originally posted videos of Matteo Salvini and TikToker @legendalreadymade (aka Black Willy Wonka) walking to the slowed remix of the song. Then, a Grissinbon walk trend evolved from Black Willy Wonka's walk involving exaggerated, long steps. In turn, the Grissinbon walk was done by female creators who used the walk to joke about feeling unsafe while walking alone at night in Italian cities like Milan. The Grissinbon walk made them appear weird to deter approaches from predatory men.

Origin

Grissin Bon (often spelled "GrissinBon") is an Italian cracker and snack company.^[1] On January 13th, 2010, YouTuber^[2] BlowUpFilm posted a GrissinBon commercial that showed a female ice skater with a song that repeated, "Grissinbon, Grissinbon, Grissinbon." The video received over 46,900 views in 14 years (shown below).

On January 5th, 2024, TikToker^[3] @ergoatdetiktok56 posted a video that's currently the first known usage of the Grissinbon song in a meme. The video used a slowed remix of the song. It showed WWE wrestler John Cena and it received over 253,800 plays and 7,100 likes in two months (shown below).

On January 14th, 2024, TikToker^[4] @ergoatdetiktok56 posted a video using their own sound^[5] and a video of Matteo Salvini (the Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Italy) walking, gaining over 756,900 plays and 107,400 likes in two months (shown below, left).

On January 15th, 2024, multiple TikTokers replicated the format, like TikToker^[6] @tblpai whose video received over 328,500 plays and 45,500 likes in two months (shown below, right).

Increasingly viral TikToks^[7] using the format continued in January 2024.

Grissinbon Walk

On January 23rd, 2024, TikToker^[8] @top5rimasti posted a video with the Grissinbon sound^[5] that used a video from TikToker^[9] @legendalreadymade (aka Black Willy Wonka). The video earned roughly 2 million plays and 302,500 likes in two months (shown below, left).

Others followed the format by using other videos from Black Willy Wonka's page, like TikToker^[10] @loshermanozs on January 26th, 2024, showing Black Willy Wonka walking on a dock. The TikTok received over 943,400 plays and 172,700 likes in two months (shown below, right).

Likely inspired by Black Willy Wonka's walk, represented in other viral Grissinbon TikToks,^[11] on March 1st, 2024, TikToker^[12] @sssabeyyy posted a video that mimicked Black Willy Wonka's walk, earning over 968,000 plays and 149,200 likes in 12 days (shown below, left).

On March 4th, 2024, TikToker^[13] @jesuisblondie posted a video that followed the What Song Are You Listening to? format, showing her doing the same walk, gaining over 2.5 million plays and 318,000 likes in nine days (shown below, right).

On March 7th, 2024, TikToker^[14] @sofiiaamartini posted a video that joked about doing the Grissinbon walk at night in Milan, gaining over 597,000 plays and 52,700 likes in six days (shown below).
