Overview

ItsAllZara Vegan Ice Cream Controversy refers to an online backlash directed toward Twitter user Anthony Dagher for harassing vegan blogger ItsAllZara for giving money to a child to buy ice cream in late April 2018.

Background

On April 28th, 2018, ItsAllZara tweeted that she gave a little girl money to buy herself ice cream after discovering the child crying in her driveway (shown below).[1]

In response, Twitter user Anthony Dagher sent ItsAllZara direct messages criticizing her for purchasing the ice cream, assuming she contributed to the purchase of an animal product. He then posted screenshots of the exchange along with a picture of ItsAllZara's Instagram account (shown below).

Online Reaction

On April 29th, Redditor AweHeck submitted screenshots of tweets about the controversy to /r/facepalm in a post titled "Buying Non-Vegan ice cream is wrong." Within 72 hours, the post gained over 17,300 points (88% upvoted) and 1,100 comments.

On May 1st, Ebaum's World[3] published a gallery about the controversy titled "Vegan Activist Gets Rekt On Twitter After Being A Mega Douche." The following day, the Ready To Glare YouTube channel uploaded a video on the controversy titled "Twitter Outrage ep. 2 : Vegan Ice Cream" (shown below).
