About

Donald Trump Oversized Coat Photoshop refers to a photoshopped image of Donald Trump created by Vic Berger showing the president in an oversized coat, slightly edited to make him appear extremely obese and lumpy. Though the photo was quickly identified as a photoshop, it spread online as people made jokes about the image, comparing it to other characters who wear large coats.

Origin

On April 9th, 2018, Vic Berger[1] tweeted a photoshopped image of Donald Trump in a large coat accentuating his midsection. The tweet gained 30 retweets and over 250 likes (shown below).

Spread

Shortly after, the photo began spreading around Twitter as users assumed it was real. Twitter user @DannyZuker tweeted the photo mocking Trump's doctor's claim that Trump was one pound below the limit for him to be considered overweight, gaining over 460 retweets and 3,200 likes (shown below, left). In the replies, he admitted he did not know whether or not the picture was photoshopped.[2] As the photoshopped picture spread, several users identified the actual image being photoshopped (shown below, right).

A majority of the jokes surrounding the photoshop compared the photoshop to different characters. For example, @theguydf tweeted a comparison between Trump and Homer Simpson looking extremely overweight, gaining over 510 retweets and 2,382 likes (shown below, left). User @RupertMyers tweeted a comparison between Trump and Bojack Horseman character Vincent Adultman (shown below, right). The jokes were covered by The Daily Dot.[3]
