Dipplin is a Pokémon introduced in the August 8th, 2023, trailer for the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC. The Pokémon is a new evolution of Applin and is reminiscent of a candy apple. After its appearance in the trailer, Dipplin became a prominent subject on social media as it was referenced in various memes, fan art depictions and discussions.

Origin

During the August 8th, 2023, "Pokémon Presents" presentation streamed on YouTube, the Pokémon "Dipplin" was revealed in a trailer for the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC. It is a Grass/Dragon-type Pokémon and the signature Pokémon of the new character Kieran.



Spread

Following the presentation, Dipplin quickly became a fan favorite on social media. For example, on August 8th, 2023, Twitter user @AntDude92[1] posted that it was "worth it" to wake up early for Dipplin, gaining over 100 retweets and 1,100 likes in six hours (shown below, left). Also that day, user @AustinJohnPlays[2] was among the first to joke that Dripplin's Shiny variation should be "caramel colored," gaining over 200 retweets and 3,900 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).



The Pokémon also inspired a significant amount of fan art within hours of its debut. For example, after the Pokémon premiered in the presentation, Twitter user @Arkamiflos[3] posted a drawing of Dripplin, gaining over 20 retweets and 40 likes in five hours (shown below, left). Around the same time, user @humming_bee_art[4] posted a piece that gained over 20 retweets and 70 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).
