About

Colbertposting is the act of parodying the politically-charged opening monologues from The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on 4chan's /tv/ and /pol/ boards, which typically include over-the-top intentional mispronunciations of President Donald Trump's name along with photoshopped images of Stephen Colbert appearing angry or distraught.

Origin

In early April 2017, users on 4chan's /tv/ board began making posts attributing intentionally misspelled variations of Donald Trump's name to Colbert, along with photoshops of the late night host appearing angry. On April 8th, 2017, the earliest archived use of the term "Colbertposting" was submitted to a thread on /tv/.^[6]

Spread

On April 25th, 2017, a thread including picture of Colbert with the caption "Runhal Blimpf" was submitted to /tv/, featuring a screen captured image of Colbert appearing angry during a February 2017 segment on Alex Jones (shown below).^[8] On April 30th, a thread titled "/tv/ is lost" was submitted to the /pol/ board, noting that "Colbertposting" had become "a big meme."^[7]

On May 11th, TIME magazine published an article reporting that President Donald Trump was brought two scoops of ice cream during a dinner at the White House, while each of his guests received one scoop. After the story was widely reported, included a segment on CNN, 4chan users began submitting Colbertposting threads referencing Trump eating two scoops of ice cream.^{[9][10][11][12]} On May 14th, YouTuber Tengzy Rust uploaded two videos featuring slideshows of Colbertposting images along with a narrator reading posts from various 4chan threads (shown below).
