Cheeseburger Wah, also known as Here Kitty You Can Has Cheeseburger, refers to a viral video of a cat being offered a cheeseburger (or sausage McMuffin) to which it opens its mouth wide to eat it, making a "Wah!" sound. The original video was posted to Chinese social media sometime during or before January 2022. In 2023, the video trended on TikTok when Postal Dude's voice (from Postal 3) was added as the audio. Many remixed the audio or re-animated the scene. Inherently, the video referenced the precursor I Can Has Cheezburger or Happy Cat meme.

Origin

Currently, the first discovered upload of the original video was posted by TikToker^[1] @_hasagii on January 11th, 2022, gaining over 3.2 million plays and 470,300 likes in two years (shown below). The original video was likely uploaded to a Chinese social media site.

The video gained viral reposts and usage on TikTok^[2] going into 2023. Then, on November 2nd, 2023, TikToker^[3] @cinnabunnnny posted the video, replacing the audio with Postal Man saying, "Here kitty, you can has cheeseburger," supposedly from the game Postal 3.^[4] The video received roughly 647,300 plays and 68,200 likes in one month (shown below).

On December 5th, 2023, TikToker^[5] @angel_humilde_nose posted an iteration that progressively sped up the "Cheeseburger Wah" sound, gaining over 507,100 plays and 77,600 likes in 13 days (shown below, left).

On December 6th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @chalklitmilk9 posted another absurd edit of the video, gaining over 5.4 million plays and 722,800 likes in 12 days (shown below, right).

Going into December 2023, animators on TikTok started to animate their characters into the scene, such as TikToker^[7] @bwallx3 on December 14th, 2023, whose video received over 1.4 million plays and 322,400 likes in four days (shown below).

During the same timeframe, animations of the meme appeared on YouTube.^[8]
