Broski On the Wing is a parody of the song "Jota On the Wing" that replaces the name "Jota" with "Broski," which is the nickname for TikToker RaisingZion's son Zion, a young boy known for videos where his dad tries to turn him into a soccer star. The song parody was posted in mid-October 2023 and went viral as TikTokers began posting memes suggesting Broski was moving to the Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal or retiring from soccer, often ironically portraying him as one of the game's all-time great players. Prior to "Broski On the Wing," RaisingZion was notable for taking part in the Project Mbappe meme.

Origin

RaisingZion is a TikToker known for his comedy videos featuring his son Zion playing soccer, as if he is attempting to turn his son into a soccer star from a very young age. The TikToker often refers to his son by the nickname "broski." On October 9th, 2023, the TikToker^[1] posted a video where he acts as if he's moving to Saudi Arabia with Broski to join the Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal, garnering over 3 million views in four days (shown below). The video references a seeming exodus of soccer players moving to the Saudi league following Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to join the league, for what many speculated is monetary reasons, as Saudi is purportedly paying him $200 million a year to play for them.^[2][3]

"Jota On the Wing" is a song performed to the tune of "Dragostea din tei," most known as the Numa Numa song, written by TikToker^[4] and musician @elliedixonmusic (shown below, left). The song is about Portugese soccer player Jota, a winger for the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad. On October 9th, 2023, TikToker^[5] @william_aye posted a video where he performs a parody of the song relacing "Jota" with "Broski," a reference to TikToker @RaisingZion, garnering over 994,000 views in four days (shown below, right).

Following the release of the song and the video where Broski appears to be joining the Saudi league, TikTokers began posting memes suggesting Broski was retiring from the game, seemingly referencing the big payout that players are taking to join the Saudi league. For example, on October 12th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @burger_king53 posted a slideshow to the song "Broski On the Wing" starting with a photo of retired player Marco Van Basten, captioned "I retired at 28," followed by a photo of Jota, who moved to the Saudi Pro League,^[7] captioned, "I retired at 23," then a photo of Broski, captioned, "…," garnering over 1.4 million views in three days (shown below).

On October 11th, TikToker^[8] @snipekingsfc posted a video about Broski retiring, garnering over 2.1 million views in two days (shown below, left). On October 12th, TikToker^[9] @kaktus_20_gks posted a video to the song that gained over 950,000 views in a day (shown below, right).
