Britt Barbie's "Period Ah Period Uh" is a viral video made by TikToker @Brittbarbie3 in September 2022 in which she's rapping over a hip-hop beat and essentially repeating the sounds "Periodahh, Perioduhh" over and over again. Users on TikTok found the song and performance hilariously bad and cringe, resulting in Duets and Stitches across the platform en masse. Many Black creators also found Brittbarbie3's video insensitive in that she was appropriating Black culture.

Origin

On September 11th, 2022, TikToker^[1] Brittbarbie3 posted a video in which she's wearing eyelash extensions, fake nails, a headband and a yellow T-shirt while rapping over a hip-hop beat. She repeats the sounds "Periodahh! Perioduhh!" over and over, resembling the slang term "periodt." Over the course of four days, the video received roughly 10.5 million plays and 1.3 million likes (shown below).

On September 11th, 2022, TikTokers started posting Duets and Stitches with Brittbarbie3's video, largely making fun of it or expressing disbelief. For instance, on September 11th, 2022, TikToker^[2] iamerikafr100 posted a Duet with Brittbarbie3 in which she laughed while the video played, earning roughly 2.9 million plays and 627,300 likes in four days (shown below, left). Later on September 11th, TikToker^[3] fiyahcracka also posted a Duet in which she danced and mimicked Brittbarbie3's motions of sticking her tongue out. Over the course of four days, the TikTok received roughly 398,300 plays and 69,200 likes (shown below, right).

On September 14th, 2022, TikToker^[4] ayame.p then mimicked Brittbarbie3's motions in a Duet that received roughly 3.4 million plays and 867,100 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also, verified TikTokers started reacting to the "Periodahh, Perioduhh" video. For instance, YouTuber and music critic Anthony Fantano posted a TikTok^[5] Duet on September 14th that received roughly 1.3 million plays and 178,200 likes in one day (shown below, right).
