About

Boy What The Hell Boy or Boi What The Hell Boi refers to a video of TikToker @mezzoreeves' voice put through Talking Tom to say "boy what the hell boy," as if expressing shock and judgment. The clip became popular as a reaction to cringeworthy content on TikTok and YouTube in June and July 2021.

Origin

The original source of the Talking Tom clip is TikToker @mezzoreeves, who said the phrase in reaction to an anime filter on an unknown date (reupload shown below).

The clip was run through the Talking Tom app by an unknown user, resulting in the altered reaction video. It was first used as a reaction to cringe content around June 14th, 2021, but it is unknown who used it first. On that day, a number of users reposted cringe videos from around TikTok with a low-res clip of Talking Tom saying "boy what the hell boy" in a high-pitched voice, as if judging the people in the clips. For example, on that day, TikTokers[1][2] @c1nnam0nbuns and @sg_eto posted videos like this, garnering over 327,000 and 1.2 million views in a month (shown below, left and right respectively).

The isolated Talking Tom clip was uploaded to YouTube[3] on the same date, garnering over 443,000 views in a month (shown below).

Spread

The clip spread across TikTok and YouTube over the course of the next month, resulting in a number of popular videos. On June 15th, YouTuber[5] Rasssper posted a cringeworthy video of a band kid talking about a prank they did in band class followed by the clip, garnering over 727,000 views in just over a month (shown below).

On June 16th, 2021, TikToker[6] @gt_710graphics_card posted a video showing a cat choosing its sexuality, using the clip at the end, garnering over 4.9 million views in a month (shown below).

On the same day, TikToker[7] @mezzoreeves posted a video claiming ownership of the clip of Talking Tom saying "boy what the hell boy," and claiming he doesn't like most of the videos using the sound, and that people haven't stopped commenting the phrase under his videos since, garnering over a million views in a month (shown below).

He has since posted a number of videos showing people spamming his comments relentlessly with comments reading a variation of, "🐿️boi🐿️what🐿️the🐿️hell🐿️boi🐿️" (examples shown below, left and right).

On June 18th, YouTuber[4] ThatGuyMuffin posted a video of a version of Girlfriend from the game Friday Night Funkin' dancing with long legs followed by the Talking Tom clip, garnering over 1.5 million views in a month (shown below).
