On August 11th, 2023, X^[1] user @Songbirdn7 posted an image of Baldur's Gate 3 character Lae'zel paired with an X Implies the Existence of Y joke by X user @EveBelleSong, formatted as a Speech Bubbling meme. The post (shown below) received over 670 reposts and 2,600 likes in two weeks.

In the following days, @SongbirdN7^[2]^[3] continued to post more memes in which companions and other characters from Baldur's Gate 3's were pained with viral social media posts, primarily from X and Tumblr (examples shown below, left and right).

In the following days, other users on X joined in on the trend. For example, on August 14th and 17th, user @cannibalanders^[4]^[5] posted memes about characters Withers and Shadowheart that received over 940 reposts and 5,400 likes and 4,500 reposts and 27,100 likes in ten days and one week, respectively (shown below, left and right).

On August 20th, 2023, Shadowheart voice actress Aliona Baranova posted voiced a Speech Bubbling meme featuring the character. The video received over 8,600 reposts and 38,300 likes on X^[6] in four days (shown below).

On August 22nd, 2023, Lae'zel voice actress Devora Wilde posted a video in which she voice a meme with her character in it, earning over 2,200 reposts and 12,500 likes on X^[7] in one day.
