Apple Pro Stand $999 Price refers to a series of memes and jokes about the amount of money required to purchase the Apple technology company's monitor stand.

Origin

On June 3rd, 2019, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, the Apple technology company announced a series of new products, including an update Mac Pro computer and accompanying monitor and monitor stand. At the end of the Mac Pro presentation, they announced the price of the stand: $999. The audience appeared to grumble and talk following the pricing announcement (shown below).

Following the release of the stand, people on Twitter began mocking the price, which they considered too high (examples below).

Additionally, Redditor [3] hatramroany posted about the monitor stand in the /r/gadgets subreddit. The post received more than 23,000 points (19% upvoted) and 2,600 comments.


Additionally, that day, YouTuber Simon Savitt posted a clip of the stand's announcement, which described the audience reaction as "groans." The post received more than 440,000 views in three days (shown below).

The following day, people began making jokes about the price of the stand on Reddit. On June 4th, Redditor[1] internetuser101 posted a photograph of a laptop on a stack of college textbooks with the title "The original $1000 monitor stand." The post received more than 2 million views, 100,000 points (91% upvoted) and 1,600 comments in two days (shown below, left).

Redditor[2] posted a photograph of the stand in the /r/pcmasterrace subreddit with the title "Why Apple users think you can't build a gaming PC for under $1,000…" The post received more than 47,000 points (91% upvoted) and 4,500 comments in two days (shown below, center).

Additionally, Redditor[4] User_26 posted a meme asking users to choose between the stand or various other pieces of electronics. The post received more than 88,000 points (95% upvoted) and 2,600 comments in 24 hours (shown below, right).

Several media outlets covered the reaciton and memes to the stand, including CNN,[5] Business Insider,[6] StayHipp[7] and more.
