9-Year-Old Army

9-Year-Old Army is a tongue-in-cheek label for fans of YouTuber PewDiePie, formally known as the "Bro Army". The name was coined by Twitch streamer Alinity during a feud with PewDiePie, in which she accused his fans of being "9-year-olds."

Origin

In May 2018, streamer Alinity described PewDiePie fans as "9-year-olds" during a feud with the YouTuber over copyright strikes (shown below, left). On May 23rd, 2018, PewDiePie uploaded a video titled "Twitch Drama #2," discussing his ongoing feud with Alinity, which specifically called out her "9-year-olds" comment (shown below, right).

Spread

On September 8th, Urban Dictionary^[1] user TankBeatsEverything submitted an entry for "9 year old army," defining it as a "special kind of specimen who specifically devote their lives to following a certain god known as Pewdiepie" (shown below).

On October 29th, 2018, YouTuber Grandayy upload a Voiceoverpete video titled "Attention All 9 Year Old Gamers," calling for viewers to subscribe to PewDiePie in "The Great Subscriber War": against T-Series (shown below). Within three months, the video accumulated upwards of 1.1 million views and 8,000 comments.

On November 1st, Quora^[2] user Louie Tangcalagan responded to the question "Why does PewDiePie call his fans 9 years old?" with an explanation of the Alinity copyright feud.
